So if i save something in Microsoft Word, transport it, do some more work on it on Open Office, i cant then complete it on Microsoft Word???

Yes you can, you can save in .doc format. And in .xls (for excel) and in all other MS Office formats

I think Word Processor can be saved in rich text format, which opens in MS Word.


Is Star Office by Sun Microsystems any more compatible?
I believe the programs themselves are built from the same source code but Star Office adds some third-party elements.

Yup Meith there's a mac version, can download it from openoffice.org not quite as polished as the PC version but still pretty good.
