My debit card number changes each time I get a new card, which is roughly every 2 years. Yes, it is annoying to have to change all your online details.

yes it should change. that number is the card number and refers to that specific card. you will have to re-register it on every website you use!

I *think* this is where issue numbers come into play.
If there's an issue number the card number stays the same...I think.

I got a £500 combined account (Mastercard and Visa) in Sept 97.
By Jan 98 I'd run it up to £950! (I thought it was £500 on each
)

I agree. But I'm 30, and there's no need to do the debt thing yet. All I'll end up doing that way is paying more for things than I need to (due to exhorbitant interest rates), meaning I have less money to spend overall.
Makes no sense at all.
