Superb film and yet quite harrowing and grim at the same time. Got it on dvd.
Oh and the actress Alexandra Maria Lara is :cool: Very pretty.

| Cross of Iron (the film) is good, but I watched it after reading the book, which (as always) is far better. Can usually pick up the DVD quite cheaply though so worth it.
Stalingrad is brilliant, was looking at the DVD on my shelf earlier and toying with watching it as I haven't seen it in ages.
Oh and Das Lebeb der Anderen is fantastic, amazing etc etc. Really enjoyed that and will be purchasing on DVD when it comes down in price a bit (even though I fancy the HMV metal tin version). Can second that the book 'Stasiland' is very interesting too for those interested in the theme.

Stasiland is a cracking book, aye. For different takes on the Stasi and the GDR, consider taking a look at Markus Wolf's autobiography (he was head of the foreign intelligence service) or "The Stasi Files" by Anthony Glees. Two very good books also :thup:
...and for once, I ashamedly have to agree with BG in saying that A.L. Lara is indeed a cracker.

It was a film that I never felt like watching despite the good reviews.
But I really liked it. And got into it quickly.
