Ganz is superb, worth watching for that alone really. I also think it's a very interesting subject; both Nazi Germany as well as a war story told from the loser's perspective. It's infinitely more interesting than the typical WW2 west front movies.

Great film. But I've never seen Donny Darko... and that's on BBC2 at 9.30.

Yeah. I remember when I got that DVD, and I watched about a minute of it before stopping. Had nothing to do with the quality of the actual film, but all due to the horrible English dubbing (Although dubbing is horrible per definition). So I immediately went out and got the proper version and enjoyed it a lot

Got Das Boot as well, in the awesome 5 hour version. Haven't seen Cross of Iron yet though, wondering if it's worth watching?

Hahahaha you are not wrong, the dubbing is horrendous. Good film though.

It quite simply is the best film ever. Ganz utterly superb, really compelling performance. They got everything right with this film, the casting, the set design, the production, sound...just everything.

I worship at its alter.

And for the record, Das Leben der Anderen is a distant second. Outrageously good film in its own right (with a similarly cracking soundtrack/film score)

Whenever I watch this I'm always reminded of A-Level History and end up looking things up on the internet. There will always be a part of me that wishes I had done History at Uni I think.
