He wasn't good enough for Everton to be honest - Carsley or Neville are far better in central midfield.

His lack of pace then becomes academic as he'll make the ball do all the work, and use his brain to find space.
If you're not prepared to play him like that, then you don't want Riquelme in your team.
| Sounds like David Noble to me.
There's lots of players that are very good at some things and not good at others - usually they don't make it to the top. Imo Riquelme benefitted from coming from Argentina - in Italy or England he would probably not have impressed during his loaned-out years.

| What?
Anyway, Ceefax has basically got it spot on. Yes Riquelme has fallen out with Pelligrini and has been training on his own in Villarreal.
They also want money for him and not another loan deal, but he has been saying he will go to Boca at some point in the near future.
So in conclusion, he is outstanding.

Totti is so much better than Riquelme it's laughable.

How can you say that? They're so different it's laughable!
If I wanted someone, for example, to play the "Riquelme" role, I'd pick Riquelme every time.
And I agree he probably wouldn't have made it in England, at least not as the player he is. He would've been forced to do a lot more donkeywork and been tarred with the 'luxury' brush.

Never really understood that argument - obviously different players, doesn't mean you can't say one is better than the other. Compare their achievements at the top level, Totti a far more accomplished player imo, even if Riquelme, at his best, is as good as anyone.

| The fact that Riquelme and Totti play different roles within a team does make it hard to say one is much better than the other, because they're so similar in terms of the level they've played at - they're obviously both elite players. Totti has a couple of extra trophies to his name but we all know how stupid it would be to compare them by totting up cups.
They've both played, and played very well, at World Cups and in the Champions League, both had top sides built around them... they both have strengths and weaknesses. Riquelme is probably the harder to stick into any team, for the reasons I described above, while Totti's athleticism and ability to play up front mean he's more likely to slot into any team and do well, but if I was going to build a team around a playmaker, I'd probably take Riquelme.

Yeah - I wasn't agreeing that Totti is FAR better than Riquelme (although I think he is better) - just that I think you can compare them, at least to some extent.
Largely agree with you though.
