how does the hacking thing work... can you really switch to any network other than 02? Also can you just use it pay as you go rather than signing up to a contract?

| Not at the moment on the 1.1.2 firmware UK ones but I'd imagine it's not far away (days or weeks rather than months).
If it's sim unlocked, then you would be able to use any SIM in it including pay as you go. You might not be able to receive GPRS data on certain pay as you go tariffs which might negate the usefulness of owning one though...

Aren't they having to sell the phone unbundled in France due to French law saying they have to do that?
Pretty sure they can't be locked down, which would suggest even to a country, so it may be worth investigating whether a French one will be able to work with a UK sim if you really wanted one that badly.

Played with my mates tonight. Got his from USA abit ago and has unlocked it. Its a cool phone and a good multimedia device, but not sure how good it would be as an actually phone
