The idea that this is analogous to the behaviour that landed Microsoft in its antitrust case doesn't stand up to a moment's examination. Microsoft was accused of exploiting an enormous existing stranglehold over the market in order to force other products on a public already locked in to Windows.
Apple has no mobile-phone monopoly, no MP3-player monopoly, no web-browser monopoly. It is simply offering a new device with certain terms attached that the customer can take or leave.

The screen is scratch proof so it will be ok in your pocket along with keys and coins but why anyone would want to pay £35 a month for 200 txts and 200 mins when there are many better tarrifs out there and cheaper better phones is beyond me. Only people who will buy it are the ones who want all the latst gadgets on day of release and see this as an image thing.
No I wont be buying one, ipod touch better value imo.

I agree with the whole wanting a 'phone to be a phone' thing tbh. First and foremost, yes. As someone mentioned, no harm having a camera and doesnt detract, not for serious photographers after all and also, no harm in the MP3 player as well.
Surely, with all that in mind there are still better options than this iPhone though ? I lost my phone some months back and not really having a clue what was 'good' i looked around. I settled on a Nokia 6300 which does actually look like a phone, it also has a camera and MP3 with memory card slot (mine 2GB now). Fraction of the price of this iPhone and it's the best phone i've had.
What's the benefit of this iPhone on top of that really ?

Benefits are bigger screen, better for viewing pages from the net, able to watch you tube from the phone menu and buy songs straight from itune and has an 8GB storage space for movies and music.
Sounds nice having all these features but I only use my phone to txt or ring people.

the ipod classic is better value than the ipod touch. you're still paying extra money for a different storage medium (which is severely size restricted in comparison) and the novelty of a touchscreen

I like the touch screen and ability to go online to be honest. I read that they have hacked the iphone already, if I saw it on the market or independent shop for £260 I might buy it but not with an 18 month contract as I dont want anymore contract phones plus the tarif on offer is not that great anyway.

| You can just buy it from Apple for £269 and unlock it yourself, it's not that hard.

The touch screen is revolutionary. Sure, the features are all available in different phones, but this is the first one to do it all together. Plus, you know that being an Apple product it'll be put together well and reasonably reliable.
I won't be buying one, but I'd like to have a play on one definitely.
| No Apple were not the first one to put it together. In fact, The iPhone lacks features compared to other devices.
Its a dumb phone.. It can't be classed as a smartphone yet, unless Apple open it up for 3rd party development.
Its industrial design is excellent, and its UI is amazing. However, its not much more than that. Its actually quite slow, but fools the end user into thinking it is faster with its UI. By animating things whilst an application loads or screen changes, it means it can take longer to do something. e.g consider opening an applucation and it doing nothing before it appear, or consider the screen being animated whilst it takes a second longer to open.. You think the second device is faster because of the animation.
As with any device, buy it if it suits your needs.
