Default Bringing in goods from the U.S

If you go to the states and bring back a load of souvenirs - how much can you bring back before they hammer you for import duty??

Is this link what i need

http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsPortalWebApp/channel...ropertyType=document

So basically anything over £145 and you get hit for it yes?

Is it also only if you go through the red channel (or if you get caught going through the green channel and get stopped)

Also whats the rate you get charged at

Thanks in advance

Post your receipts back to you, remove any tags from clothes. Basically take virtually nothing out in your suitcases when you go.
£145 is the level, though I've been back from US three times and not been stopped - tbf the excess tax you'll pay if you have to will not hit you that hard considering the decent exchange rate that we have in the UK now against the $.

If you are feeling particularly guilty as you come back through customs may well be worth going through the red channel.
Depends on what you are intending to bring back ofc. They're sure to be watching you through the two way mirrors anyway

Congratulations!
Mate of mine did that with his now wife. He made a booking in advance with Tiffany's iirc.
Wrecked my chances of an impressive proposal. Though mine was done on Xmas morning with a bottle of champagne in our new house after exchanging all the presents, I simply said I've just got one thing I need to ask you.... she said yes of course.
