McCarthy part-time should do the trick.

Paul Jewell should not be the next Irish manager.
| whs, especially about Flabers
Why do we need such a quick appointment anyway? We have ages until we need a new manager.

Flabs laced by his fellow countrymen. :*(
Paul Jewell should not be the manager of Ireland. Roy Keane would be by far the best man if he chose to leave Sunderland. Would have the respect of the players and is much loved in Ireland.

Jewell has been interviewed by John Giles, who seems to be working in an official capacity of some sort, but still some way off being selected.
Jewell said:
"John Giles asked to see me and I went to meet him," said the 43-year-old Englishman. "We had a chat about football in general and of course he mentioned the Irish job situation. It wasn't an interview but I'm flattered by the interest and I'm certainly not ruling it out. I'm thinking about it and we'll see soon enough whether anything develops."
Just an interview so, let's hope they've been interviewing some real international managers too.

Giles puts Jewell in frame for Irish job
By Liam Mackey
JOHN GILES has met with former Wigan boss Paul Jewell, as the quest for a new manager of the Republic of Ireland begins to gather momentum.
The former Irish international and current RTÉ analyst refused to confirm or deny that the meeting had taken place in England yesterday but, although it’s understood that he spoke to Jewell about the Irish job in a personal capacity, the FAI would be the obvious beneficiaries of Giles’ expertise in what are still the early stages of the search for a successor to Steve Staunton. However, Giles has previously indicated that he does not want to be considered for the official panel of headhunters being assembled by Merrion Square.
Asked on Newstalk if he could confirm that yesterday’s meeting with Jewell had taken place, Giles replied: “I’ll confirm something I said at the start: that I would help every way I can, which I will do. At the moment I have to treat the situation with confidentiality.”
In Cardiff last night, where Ireland are preparing for their European Championship qualifier against Wales tomorrow, an FAI spokesman commented: “No approach has been made by the FAI to any potential manager.”
Nevertheless, even if Giles was not representing the Association at the meeting in any official capacity, his sounding out of Jewell would be very helpful to the FAI as it seeks to draw up a shortlist of interested and credible candidates for the manager’s job.
Former Wigan, Sheffield Wednesday and Bradford boss Jewell has made no secret of his desire to get back into club management since stepping down from the Wigan post at the end of last season, but he is now believed to feel more positive about taking the step up to an international position should an offer be made. Yesterday, he said he was not ruling himself out of any job.
Former Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier and current England assistant Terry Venables continue to be the front runners in the race to replace Steve Staunton but Jewell has long been promoted by his supporters inside and outside the FAI as a young manager of considerable talent.
Having recently turned down what he described as a “fantastic” offer to rejoin Wigan, Jewell has since been linked with a number of clubs, including Birmingham City, whose own manager, Steve Bruce, has been given permission to speak to Wigan. With all these musical chairs taking place, the FAI were said to be anxious about sounding out the intentions of the 43-year-old boss, who has plenty of other options open to him, including interest from Championship side Preston North End, where chairman Derek Shaw was quoted as saying that he feared that Jewell’s services would be beyond their price range.
Said Jewell yesterday: “I’ve had a few offers but there is not one I have accepted yet.
“I have not heard from Preston. But Preston is a fantastic club and I would never say no to speaking to anyone.
“It’s alright being mentioned for jobs such as the one at Preston but you have to be offered it.
“It doesn’t have much significance unless the chairman makes that phone call. I would like to work in the Premier League, yes, but I am not ruling myself out of any job.”
| Looks like Ireland will be battling it out with Preston North End for Jewell's signature, ffs.

Houllier is easily the best choice out of the names I've seen linked with the Ireland job. Did he really express any interest in the job or was it just media speculation? Either way, Jewell would be a huge step down from that.

Hah, concerns about Jewell's style of football ? I guess that's the end of the free-flowing, attractive football we have come to expect from the Republic then ....

Not as well as Jewell. One 7th place finish and a (admittedly commendable) UEFA Cup run in a sea of lower mid-table finishes.
