Default FAO Kris or other compsavvy people - re: reinstalling Windows XP

Ok i'll try to be brief, mainly cos my wrist is killing from typing this on the wii.

my computer ****ed up today in that it won't get past the windows xp loading screen without resetting itself (with a bluescreen flashing for a nanosec before the computer resets).

anyway what i need to know now is whether or not the contents of 'my documents' and the files on my desktop will disappear or not. if so is there any way of salvaging them before i reinstall xp?

cheers.

You may be OK if you can repair your install through the console.

once the memory check and that gets done, i get 30secs to choose one of these options:

safe mode
safe mode with networking
safe mode with command prompt
lastnknow good configuration
normal startup

the latter two dont work whilst the safemode ones bring up loads of writing before the computer resets
