boot the windows cd and get into the recovery console by pressing r. type 1 as the installation of windows you want to get into. Type your password or leave blank as applicable. then type:
C: CHKDSK /R
then wait

how do i boot the windows cd? i cant even get past the screen where the windows xp loadscreen is.

you have to go into the bios and set the boot order to boot from cd

the only way you'll lose your files is if you choose to FORMAT.

oh great, it appears the restore disc is for win98. where are my datafiles stored - ram, rom, hdd or what?
i plan on getting a laptop and that soon - is there a chance i\pc world could copy the stuff from my doc

| Anyone doing it for you would charge, probably a bomb. Simplest way is if you know someone with a desktop PC. Stick your harddrive in that as a second drive, and you should have access to everything.
