Anybody interested in a bit of voluntary Footie Journalism?
I'm in the process of setting up a website that I hope will eventually challange the likes of Tribalfootball and Planetfootball as a strong resource for football news.
Basically this is currently only in the planning stage, and one point of challange is where exactly we are going to get the news from.
I've noticed that a lot of the time, football news breaks here before it reaches the mailstream websites, which is something I think we can take advantage of.
With Planetfootball gone a bit crap (not least in the new design), and the likes of Tribalfootball always being crap, and Goal publishing stuff someones mate heard down the pub, I think there is a market for a good, strong, cleanly designed football news website.
Where I feel Planetfootball falls down is with its International news. Often it reports stuff that had initially been reported by the likes of Voetball International or Marca, days or even weeks later, so I want this to be more comprehensive and also quicker to the punch.
I work with quite an international team in my job, and sometimes stroll up all smug to one of my Dutch teamates to tell them some dutch transfer news I've read on Planetfootball, only to discover that the've known about it for weeks.
So what I want is the following: A team of International voluntary journalists who will scower their national and local press daily for news, speculation, statistics etc... Write up a short artcle about it and then mail it to myself for vetting.
Countries covered will be the following:
England
Scotland
Ireland
France
Spain
Italy
Holland
Germany
Portugal
Scandinavia
Brazil and or South America
Asia if possible
Africa if possible
Austria\Switzerland if possible.
Where possible means that we can find a reliable news hound.
Would anybody be seriously interested in this? I'd like to have as many journos's as possible, covering as many regions as possible. Obviously you'd have to take it pretty seriously.
ETA for the website is December 07/January '08. Its called Footballoasis.com
Anyway, could be fun, or could fall on its arse as these things usually do, but I'd like to make it community driven to ensure a better chance of success.
Also, if anybody would like to get involved in the creation drop me a line:- This could be a lot of work so would'nt mind some help. I have a colleague of mine from MS willing who will help if things get a bit hairy, but we're working on other projects together and this is kinda bottom of the pile as far as priorities go, hence the request for outside help.
Obviusly as with any large project I'm scoping this first.
Interested parties mail to footballoasis AT gmail.com or post here.

Yes, hence why I refer to it as "crap" about 3 lines later.

I'm always interested in writing stuff. Not sure exactly how I could improve on the speed of the BBC and SSN websites though, which is surely where most people go for their news?

I could do something like this for England, but I'd imagine you've got a lot of people capable of doing that, including more talented writers than me.
I may have to concentrate on one particular foreign league for work, in which case I'll be able to give you regular updates on that. Won't know which for a few months probably.
