Okay weird topic but there has recently been quite a large debate within the world of optics as to how people percievce an opticians work, especially now that glasses/contact lenses are regarded more as a fashion statement as opposed to a medical aid.
Me and a few Optical Managers are trying to formulate a "general" overview of what people think - so if you can spare a couple of minuites just to awnser some questions (especially if you wear sepecs or lenses) the world of Optcis will be a better place
1, What is an "Optician"
2, What is an "Optomotrist"
3, Who are the most qualified people within a practise - and why do you think that is?
4, Which opticians do you frequent, and why?
That's about it - thanks for your time!

Opticians and their perception to the public Post #2
May as well help you out and reply. First ever optician thread for me though. Never been to an opticians. Need to as my eyesight's not great.
1. An optician is someone who finds out if your eyesight's bad and advises on how it'd affect your life if you had glasses/contacts/laser surgery/whatever. Then they cleverly work out exactly what type of lens you need, and perhaps they sell you those things.
2. No idea.
3. I'd guess the people who work out exactly what the lenses would have to be like to suit each individual's eye defect. If such people do work in opticians. Simply because it sounds extremely complicated and intricate and I wouldn't have a clue about it.
4. Never been to one.

1, What is an "Optician"
Someone who examines your eyes
2, What is an "Optomotrist"
Someone who examines your eyes, but wants a poncy title to go with it
3, Who are the most qualified people within a practise - and why do you think that is?
The one with the nicest car
4, Which opticians do you frequent, and why?
I don't. Even though I get free eye tests from work and I've worked there for 8 years, I've not set foot in an optician's for about 15 years now. I can see fine, so I don't see the need. As soon as I can't see fine, I'll be straight along.

Opticians and their perception to the public Post #8
1)Someone who tests your eye-sight
2) Someone who makes and processes the prescription of eye-ware e.g glasses and contact lenses?
3) Optomotrist I think. Dunno why.
4) I wear both glasses and contacts...and I use Spec-Savers but was thinking of changing to Vision Express or Dollond & Aitchison as I feel Specsavers is not as customer caring, they seem like the Tesco version of Opticians.
