The floor would have to be solid. No give. So that it can be reliable.
People would have to lift up their carpets to install it. Not an attractive option.
Motion sensors are still the best thing. I mean what if a trained monkey was used to rob your house? It would just jump around the rooms using the furniture to step on.
Ranjith: Good point about the flooring being solid. But fitting this alarm system is one of the things that can be once done and forgotten about. As for the trained monkey thing, never heard of such a case, but I guess its possible.
In essence, the alarm is supposed to be 'intelligent'; so it can differentiate between people who live in the house and burglars. And the alarm, if possible, should be on 24 hours a day. That kinda makes it a bit more difficult.
