Well it was a bit of an odd one, as they were half-owned by a Dutch company. Who for some reason gave us all pay-offs even though I don't think they had to.
If I'm completely honest I didn't look into that part of the situation too closely. My head was a bit f*cked up at the time and I just took the money and ran into the first job offered.

My only debt is my mortgage but that's protected anyway. Even my car is paid for and is worth about 10k at the moment. Think that's why I'm tempted to sit this out rather than risk a change I may regret.

There's always the chance that if the company gets bought out that they'll need to keep people on. So time to make yourself indispensible at work and get that wage rise and/or relocation package when some rich investor comes along.

Suddenly the reason for the long shifts and hard-work by GK become clear.

My long shifts and hard work are down to the passion I have for my work. If I lost that then I'll be bailing back to the Motherland quick sharpish.

| Yeah that's another possibility which could even improve things as we're a small technical company and our real problem is we have no sales force. Think I'd be considered indispensible anyway as I'm the sole programmer on the latest version of our software which is now being live at a few customer sites so would need supporting. When the company has gotten loans in the past a condition has always been life insurance on me which I'm guessing is a meausure of how important the banks think I am.

either that or it's a measure of how likely the company thinks I'll die cycling and so it's a bit of easy cash.

If they've been insuring you for so long then it could be that they're protecting themselves for when they eventually kill you. Insurance pays for itself, plus nobody would ever suspect them.
