Up until recently i always thought i did need it. A few pints gives me confidence that i dont have sober. However ive gone off beer this last few weeks and probably wont drink that much now until Christmas. Im fed up of having only 2 days off work a week, and wasting 1 of those feeling like poo recovering. Went out around Leeds at the weekend and had a great time sober. Didnt get in till about 3am but didnt miss drinking once, nor did i feel like i needed one to have a good time. And the best thing was, i woke up the next morning feeling fine
Only weird thing is all my mates were asking if i was ok as i wasnt drinking. Anyone else gone off beer recently?

Do you need alcohol to have a good night out? Post #2
I went a month without drinking at one point and there is a lot of peer pressure to have alcohol when everyone else is drinking.
After several glasses of soft drinks laced with caffeine the only thing you really notice is how much of a tit people make of themselves when hammered on ale.
Saved a fortune, and felt all the better for it too.
Only downside is you remember everything you did next morning and have no excuse on waking up next to a two-bagger :thdn:

I can definitely have a good time without a drink but that's only true if there's at least another sober person with me. If everyone around is getting wasted and I'm the only sober one I feel out of place, everyone is laughing at stupid things, not capable of having a somewhat decent conversation...

Gave up drinking about 2 months ago and have only been out 5/6 times since. Was a little awkward the first time but I still have a good time when I'm out, so no I don't need it to have a good night out.

But I don't need to get totally drunk every night out (I rarely get very drunk on night out these days tbf), but having a few drinks relaxes me, and definitely makes the night better than it would otherwise be.

That was the weird thing on Sat night, everyone else was rather drunk. i was totally sober but was still laughing at stupid things and didnt feel out of place. Didnt think it would have been like that, but now realised i can be sober and not feel like the odd one out

I don't need to drink for a good night out, but I find it helps. I certainly couldn't stay sober if I was the only one doing that, for the same reasons Meitheisman said.
