| Thought you were comparing the OTF thread to the boards as a whole, in which case I'd say it can't really rival the bugs forum, for example.
No arguments about GQ being an intellectual wasteland. </BLOCKQUOTE>
I was taking it as a thread on general feedback on the game. Which I always assumed GQ was intended to be full of. Instead of what it has become.

There are good users there.
But it tends to be repetitive. The same issues will get discussed over and over.
And there is not really a resolution to most FM idea discussions. Because it takes time for SI to try out the idea to see if it is practical in a gameplay sense.
I don't think it fully deserves its bad reputation.

I can understand why people would post those annoying questions that have been answered elsewhere, as they usually come from 'amateurs' who don't spend much time on the boards, and simply don't know how things work.

| Yeah I don’t mind those people, as they buy the game and have a question so go onto the official forum and ask there.
What’s annoying is the same users who attack them each and every time. They say they’re annoyed at the same questions being asked but in reality they seem to revel in the chance to put someone in their place.
Better moderation is needed.

Updates
At the Mods' Meeting of Sunday, April 25, 2004 it was decided after a lengthy debate that the moritorium on LLM Updates should be lifted for a trial period. As such updates will be allowed in the LLM Forum under the following conditions:
1) LLM updates SHOULD be started in the Lowest available league in any given Nation, single league nations - though not strictly speaking LLM - will be allowed
2) Updates should take the form of a short description of how your Team is doing. Game summaries should be avoided, but may be posted for Cup Finals, Playoff games and important games which have a direct bearing on your Team. eg, relegation deciders.
3) Only one update thread per month may be started, i.e., If you start an update on the 1st of April you won't be allowed to start another until the 1st of May - only one update ongoing at any time. This specifically includes "game crashed", "got sacked and started afresh" and any other excuse.
4) Mods will, at their discretion, close updates that appear to be "dead".
5) Any suggestion of non-LLM inpropriety will result in the thread being closed. Refer to LLM Guidelines for more information.
6) It goes without saying that there's no player naming, tactical discussion, and the rest of the acknowledged LLM Forum "Rules". The Spirit and Ethos of LLM should be adhered to, they are there to help you enjoy a "clean" game and not as a shortcut to an easy career. Guidelines are open to general interpretation, but the Mods are experienced enough to decide when interpretation of guidelines is being abused.
7) Only one thread per update, re-titled by a Mod if requested, eg. Change of Club. Any other thread concerning the same career will be closed.
8) The posting of Tables is actively discouraged.
Note: The trial has now been lifted and updates are a permanent fixture at LLM, although each condition must still be followed.
Note Mk II: A minimum of three seasons must be completed in order for a user to start an update thread. We do appreciate that it can take some users a long time to complete three seasons, so if you would like to start an update thread sooner, please email one of the mods for permission
| no posting tables utterly mad

I think the mods are too tolerant of those in GQ (And there are many) who have the IQ of a fish.
Maybe it's because they're paying customers, and banning your paying customers from your forums should understandably be a last resort. But it does make it a depressing place in there at times.

| I think GQ's purpose is more about being a point of contact with the thousands of non regulars who buy the game.
There must be thousands of casual players who buy the game once and want to visit the website. They have to end up somewhere. So I think it is inevitable that you are going to get a lot of short term users who are just passing through.
Ideally there would be an separate ideas forum that would be located down the bottom of the forum menu.
A few years ago the "your shout" forum was used like a smaller ideas forum. Marc Vaughan was there and there was a group of regulars. Though I cringe a bit at some of the stuff I posted.
I think you should just keep posting feedback in the OTF on topic thread. Someone from SI probably does read it and absorbs it. It has as good a chance of being seen as posting it in GQ.

Fair point, well made. I just wonder whether the forum is the best way of helping new peeps without a massive pile on or wannabe mods?
One suggestion in that thread (made by someone else, so i'm not taking the credit here) was to have a learner forum which is open to users in the first week or so. Only allow mods/selective users to post in it. That way, new users get help from experienced people who are known to be helpful. Snarking is avoided.
The best part of this idea is that you restrict new user posting rights in the first week or so to this learner forum only. Read only for the rest of the forum. It allows new users to get a feel for the place, get questions answered but not wreck the place. Would also help combat lacing, to a certain degree.
I would love this change, or in fact, any change to happen to GQ. I just can't see it happening though. What do you think?
