Mono were the first post-rock band I ever saw in person, driving 2 hours to see them in Oklahoma City back in early 2004. It was when
Walking Cloud and Deep Red Sky, Flag Fluttered and the Sun Shined was first released, and I purchased it at the show and talked to the lovely bassist and one of the guitarists. The spoke practically no English, but they were incredibly humble and grateful of the praise I heaped on them.
They absolutely destroyed that night, playing my favorite track from
Under the Pipal Tree along with most of the new album. It still ranks at the top of my list of loudest shows I've been to, just edging out This Will Destroy You.
Speaking of which, I've just been on
TWDY's myspace and discovered they have released two new tracks, both pretty good, with Burial On The Presidio Banks sounding particularly lovely and Mono-ish.
