No, not Drug enforcement but Domestic Energy Assessor.
I have been loking into this recetly as I try in vain to get my career in this country sorted (Been abroad 2 years) and get out of office work.
The basic premise is all sold properties in the UK which are in excess of 4 bedrooms require a HIPS pack (Home Information Pack), part of the HIPs pack is a Domestic Energy assessment. So there are many adverts about to qualify as one by doing 4 modules, lasting two days each, after this you get a Certificate and can carry them out. One advert says the standing charge is £100 per assessment, its possible to do 15 in one week.
The blocks are as follows, the stadard charge for the course is around £6,000, however you can get it for £4,000 if you do a set number for the company (College) for 48 months. Also I am told many tales of people doing about 1-2 per week as there are too many of these assessors. There are about 1,000 required and about 7,000 qualified, so its hard to find the work.
So I am cautious about spending all this money on the course to have only a handful of assesments per week, Existing DEA's are cutting their prices like mad to be competitive but there are just too many people. All rental properties and all commercial property will require one as well, so it may even out.
Also the Tories are planing to scrap HIPS if they get in.
I was wondering if anybody else has lookied into this, or indeed if there are any qualified DEA's out there, who could give me some more information.
