Something similar happened to my C64 years ago - at the time we fixed it by buying another port from Tandys (Maplins would be your best bet now I would have thought), removing the original one from the motherboard and soldering the new one into place.
Mind you, I suspect it would invalidate any warranty you've got, and may well be a risk that you're not willing to take.

| Yeah, that's what the problem is. Although finding somebody willing to fix it seems impossible, everywhere I've gone either doesn't deal with laptops or doesn't have the knowhow to fix this.
It cost me £700, so I'd accept paying a fair bit to fix it, if only because I could only afford an inferior replacement. It's an Acer, so think I'm going to have to see if they can do it.

Watching the game Saturday, had my laptop on the arm-rest next to me. The goal mouth scramble happened, I was jerking about uncontrollably, then the goal was given and I was overcome and lept out of my chair. The laptop fell off with the power cable in.
It appears it bashed the base of the pin inside tha laptop, and f**ked it up. Putting the power cable in didn't register, but there's definitely power coming through the actual cable. A bit of choice wiggling of the pin made it give up on life and disappear somewhere inside my laptop.
Laptop itself is fine, just that when the battery runs out (51minutes) I can't get any power in it. Local repair place can't look at it till Wednesday. There's no chance of a big chain store or something being able to see it quicker is there? Not urgent, I'm just impatient.
Getting so excited about a draw lolol.

A likely story , however I feel inclined to comment on the nature of the content on your laptop. Chances are it was a fix - up. You deliberately knocked the laptop over as your wife/husband walked in the room and you "accidentally" pushed it onto the floor, and into peices so as to avoid the situation where they witnessed the porn  on the laptop. A close run thing I must say. :p
