Stories like this make me wonder about the state of humanity sometimes. If the parents didn't want the burden of looking after their child, then the least they could have done was put her in the care of the State.

I suspect he was being somewhat facetious...


Two things that concern me:

- This is far from the first time that the Department of Human Services has been aware of issues with the treatment of a child and has done nothing, with tragic results. I know it's easy in hindsight, and they get plenty of referrals, but it looks horrible when cases like this slip through the cracks.

- With all these circumstances, the parents were able to slip away with nobody noticing they were gone until they went to arrest them?

Oh, and I know I should be concerned about the sick people who would let this happen (yeah, innocent before guilty etc, but something has clearly gone wrong here), but one of the joys of seeing criminal cases every day is that you realise just how screwed up some people are...
