I'm the standby man for a mates team.
They are all fairly reliable and old so I tend to get more calls during the summer when they are on their summer holidays.
the moral of the story being get in some experience!

I also organise work 5 a side, every wednesday. Getting numbers not usually a problem but you always come across people who just don't have any consideration for the other 9.
one guy just didn't turn up tonight and didn't bother telling me, so it left us 4 v 5.

| I play on a tuesday there too, exactly the same issue though. If either of you are short, I'd fill in with enough notice. Imagine there are probably a few people who play there actually.

its crazy, i run a team on a thurs night and we have a different 10 every week, tbf done it for 2 1/2 years with not too may prbs but it is harder than some ppl think to organise
