I've had it this year. I have dormant asthma (i.e. I used to have it badly but it's more or less gone now) so was offered it free.
Pretty much painless, it's just a slight jab and that's it.
It's worth getting as I've had the flu twice before and it's not nice, I can assure you.

I had it while I was at Uni, mainly because I was at the Doctors for something else and they collared me to get a flu jab because of my Diabetes.

Haven't had another one since though, and it's been a couple of years.

It cant GIVE you flue iirc. You'll have already been exposed to the bug before the jab
