In fairness, Gerrard's record is still an improvement on Owen's.

I think that window might have slammed shut a while back tbh. You're stuck with him. Dont see him being offered a new deal though, eh. Allardyce had something about waiting until the end of the season and fair enough.

Thought our set pieces was appalling last night, did we beat the first man with any of them. First half decent ball that found an England head went in. That chance that Owen missed, lovely move but i thought it was a terrible miss. Goal was gapping, either side of the keeper and he hits it in the one place that he shouldnt have.

Also thought the pitch was awful and the football uninspiring. Owen's injured and out, not that i think it'll make much difference against Croatia the way he was going. Wonder what odds on Owen not getting the England goal scoring record ?

I don't see how he can be offered a new deal until he proves his fitness. Since he's joined us, he has very nearly played more games for England, than he has for the club.

I'd happily take £6million for him, possibly with a player makeweight. Wouldn't mind that Geovanni who never seems to play despite being fb.
Owen is simply a player who is over the hill, Fat Sam is just too proud to admit it.

Over the hill?

I remember in the mid 90's when Shearer stopped scoring and was out injured for a while everyone was saying he was finished too.

Owen will become Englands best ever goalscorer.

Being out for over 2 years and consistanly getting injured now isnt the same as being 'injured for a while' though. And he's lost one of his main assets.

thought Carson looked composed though, albeit without much Austria pressure. wouldn't mind seeing him keep his place for Wednesday night...
