Seminal moment tonight with English football standing at something of a crossroads after the loss to Croatia. Lots of people are disappointed but many I suspect expected it. Time and time again on the football stage, this country shoots itself in the foot after countless hype and empty promises.
Many (including myself) will now be calling for the head of Maclaren. I don't think it should stop there however. There are those at the FA for me who are as much to blame as to how English football is at the moment. They have oversold/overhyped (call it what you will) their product making folk believe that what they are getting is better than it actually is. Well, tonight it's blown up in their faces.
The media also have to be held to account - they roll out the same tired old cliches and soundbites about how the 'players aren't going to let the country down, etc'. Only too willing to talk the talk, but not able to walk the walk.
Players wise - as I said, many of them have been shown to be average players when faced with a technically superior side. Tonight hasn't been the first time that's happened but perhaps it's the one that's hit home hardest. Being a supreme athlete with pace and a good engine isn't enough if you haven't got the natural ability. You'll always be found out when pit against better technique.
So, English football stands at a crossroads. Not only the national side, but also the whole system from the grassroots up./Which way it goes will be interesting. Will they rip it up and start again, or will be get the same old empty promises and bu1lshit ? My money will be on the latter sadly.
English football is doing fine. We are not at a crosswords. We're a third of the way through a potentially fantastic Premier League season. The national team's a bit crap but the players are probably there.
It doesn't need saving, stop being so melodramatic.

scotland thought so too, but we went for a foreign coach ( wee berti ) & he duly fu***d us up. so dont panic do what most countries do take a step back, forsake a couple of tournaments & come back stronger.
bg complaining about other people rolling out tired cliches and soundbites
and, to be serious for a second, we have plenty of players with adequate technical ability to succeed at international level. they just didn't show up and perform today
finally, no longer serious - why do you repeatedly insist on censoring "bull" and not "****"?

nah it's dead and buried, no saving it now imo, within two years attendances will have dropped so far premier league clubs will be going bankrupt, foreign players will all be leaving the country because we can't afford to pay them, and the league isn't competitive enough, and our teams are doing **** in Europe. We'll end up with a league akin to the Irish one probably. As for the national team, we'll never get back into the top 100 in the ratings, or qualify for another tournament again.
