In that scenario blame still shoots up to uber manager D
Who should have ensured that policies were in place and being followed such that for data of this sensitivity there was a clear chain of custody and only those who had been trained and cleared should have been involved in the handling of

Pay ours straight into the kids bank accounts.

Might be different in Scotland though </BLOCKQUOTE>

why is all the blame on the revenue, and none on TNT who lost the thing?
if they could do their job then there wouldn't be a problem

It's £18.10 p/w for the first child, £12.10 for each additional child.
Anyway, I work on the Child Benefit helpline, today was a barrel of laughs as you can imagine. And of course we only found out about through people ringing in who'd seen it on the news. It wasn't until about 4pm that we even briefed on it. Utter shambles.

| Because the discs weren't encrypted and it was sent by ordinary courier when it obviously should've been sent recorded or special courier. Basically, the most basic guidelines for sending such classified info wasn't followed.

I used to work for the NAO and we sent files back and forward to various agencies, always by normal mail. I think the general public would be surprised at the amount of information that is passed around, particularly for audit purposes.
For example, I worked quite heavily on the CSA audit and had access to entire files which contained (sometimes over 10 years) of names, addresses, bank details, correspondence, court reports, etc etc all sent reguarly via regular post.
Of course it may change now and everything may need to be couriered, but that will obv increase the cost and who ends up paying for that but us?
and i'm not convinced the hype about identity theft actually meets the chances of it happening.

Heh, I used to work at the Washington site. HMRC such a shambles imo - very poorly organised and horrendous software to work with.
Details are kept on after a claim has ceased (not sure for how long though), hence the 25 million figure.

| Bound to have been a JFDI from a senior manager tbh. Policy and process might as well not exist when a sufficiently senior manager says JFDI.
