Again, this is news to anyone who's ever played youth football. It should be the taking part that counts when they're kids ffs. </BLOCKQUOTE>

Nope, we need to get a more winning mentality into this nation. yes kids need to enjoy playing the sport but they also need to learn that winning matters.

What utter bull. The only place where they're taught the enjoyment of sport purely and simply and that it's taking part is during Games and PE lessons in School where it SHOULD be the case. Those lessons are for everybody and most aren't actually going to be that good at it, so they should merely be getting taught the enjoyment of a sport along with the basics.

When kids are in the School or Local club Football teams it's all about winning. Getting it forward as quickly as possible and trying to win. That is actually something that is very wrong with Youth Football.

I'll utter Greggs sentiments and say that is complete rubbish. Lets blame the kids because of the national teams failures???If anything pushing kids into the mentality of only winning matters can quickly cause disinterest at that age. I see it so much. Pushy parents and coaches with the 'only winning mentality' and kids cease to enjoy the game.

Wheres the benifit there?

Wander down your local park next Sunday morning, watch some kids football. Wait and see how long it is before a defender is encouraged to "get rid of it ffs" and hoofs it upfield.

That's not really the point, is it? It's lowest common denominator football and it isn't fun for anyone. No wonder kids drift away from the game.
