The situation is Beckham is in is directly related to McClaren binning him from the England squad in his "my way" phase. Beckham would have never gone to the States if he thought he was in the running for England. He mentioned he had offers in Italy. He may be having some match fitness problems but you cant really blame him, he hasnt played recently and did remarkably well all things considered. Another thing we can thank McClaren for.
Not sure why everyone was chucking Foster in the England side. We've just put Carson in and he had a mare, we're going to do the same with Foster who had hardly played for United (if at all) yet ? I have no idea who we will start the next campaign but everyone wanted James in place of Carson for this cause of experience. Qualifiers are starting September and at least James hasnt got any worse. He's always been like this so is not deterioating. There's the silver lining !

its the fans that make dodgy keepers. A keeper is only good aslong as he keeps his confidence. Look at James, he was ok before he made a mistake for liverpool then everyone jumped on his back and he lost his confidence and he was making mistakes every week. Fair play to him for dragging his career around. Mark Bosnich was the same. He was great at villa, makes one bad kick when he gets to Man Utd and everyones on his back, he loses confidence and hes useless. Friedel was the same at liverpool, when he got to blackburn he was offered support and has gotten his confidence back.
I fear for Scot Carsons career now as all the narrow minded people point the finger and say he is a crap keeper. He was thrown it at the deep end and knew that one mistake and he would be condemd for life. He was probably terrified.
Robinson only made the one mistake as far as im aware and all of a sudden he isnt good enough to be a keeper? I believe he is still Englands best keeper and had people not been on his back since his one mistake against croatia he would have been playing on wednesday. An experienced good keeper.
I also blame england's 'its the taking part that counts' attitude, they have at grass roots lvl.

| Again, this is news to anyone who's ever played youth football. It should be the taking part that counts when they're kids ffs.

One mistake.
From that post, i'm saying our low standards is the main problem.

and to be a goalkeeper you've got to be able to deal with pressure, this could potentially be the making of Carson, like with Beckham in '98. If Carson never recovers from Wednesday then he would never have been a future long term international goalie anyway if he can't make mistakes and get over it.
