True - when I posted I was thinking that people that don't have much interest in music were unlikely to contribute that much to music sales.
However I now think that radio airplay = sales as gifts (safe bet presents), and requests from kids who don't know any different.
Pop music as we know it grew from the acoustic limitations of AM radio sets - certain types of music played better over the radio, and any content that wasn't mid-range frequency was virtually lost.
If it wasn't played on radio it didn't reach mass audiences, and if it was played on radio it became popular.
