| my position has nothing to do with the fact liverpool dont have any players in the U21s

couldn't you argue that some of the under 21 squad clearly aren't going to 'make it' and by replacing them with more senior players, you will only aid the 'better' under 21s' players?

His argument was that putting the likes of Rooney in the u21's, helping them win a tournament and then bringing them through would benefit both the player and the senior side, with the youngsters having the experience of winning tournaments.

Whilst this idea is stupid, Gab Marcotti said something like that around the Euro Under 21 championship. He said that other countries would have sent the likes of Lennon, Rooney to the Championship to help England to win an international tournament and get that winning experience in international football.

not really a stupid point, his point was that other nationas successfully nuture their younger players in international tournaments before being thrown into the full squad.

| Theres a major difference between Lennon and Rooney, one has played in and starred in a major tournoment already, the other has hardly played for the senior side. Richards I guess you could put in there as well.

| While the players you lose from the squad as a whole might be in that category, the players you lose from the first XI should at least have a decent chance of being involved in the senior set up as squad players. At worst it's generally too early to tell.

| But we're talking about players who have already been thrown into the full squad. If you're saying we should maybe hold back players longer, that's a completely different argument. You could also argue that other countries have the luxury of being able to do that, as they have more strength in depth (or at least so we're always being told).
