You don't really need to play well (although this is nice too), you just need to win games. </BLOCKQUOTE>
Portugal's record in the Euro qualifiers: 0 wins against Poland, 0 wins against Finland and 0 wins against Serbia. The only reason they qualified is that Finland and Serbia lost so many points against weaker teams. Scolari seems to have lost his touch.

still not sure what people's beef with o'neill is. there are better managers in the world, yeah, but it's not like it would be another mcclaren appointment. o'neill is fairly outspoken and has a good track record, it would hardly be the end of the world.
| More than that, isn't someone who's used to getting mostly average players to overachieve pretty much exactly what we need? </BLOCKQUOTE>
i wouldn't say so. England's strongest possible starting XI is far from being made up of 'mostly average players'. more a case of getting some very good/great footballers to put their egos aside, play as they do for their clubs and gel as a team. </BLOCKQUOTE>
He has some experience at that too. Henke anyone?
Jose has to be first choice. Martin has to be 2nd. After that, must be one of the Italians.
Anyone suggesting otherwise is probably an idiot. </BLOCKQUOTE>
Aye, you'd have to be an idiot to rate Fabio Capello over Martin O'Neill.

Portugal qualified though, which was their objetive.
Hopefully he will get his touch back in the EC.

citing one player is pretty nonsensical - hardly proves he can mould 11 (give or take 1 or 2 in England's case) excellent individuals into an effective team.
and what Splendid said - if thinking Capello is a better option than O'Neill makes me an idiot, i'll settle for that tbph.

| Quite possibly one of the best posts in this thread.
Does Henry Winter of the Telegraph disguise himself as some of the members on the forum? His articles this morning stink of MON love. he IS the only man for the job, apparently. No mention at all of Capello, clearly hoping that those in Soho Square won't even notice a dirty, stinking Italian is actually interested in the job.
Benitez is a name thrown up by the The Times - oooooh negative football.
Italian sports press and TV are all over the Capello stuff right now. As it is for those who are in the know here, they find it laughable that such a high-powered, high-financed organisation such as the FA can mention MON and Alan Shearer in the same breath as Capello and Lippi. There is simply no comparison.

That would have been a very good argument to use in response to a serious post.
