I dont know why he or anyone persists in Alan Smith in some kind of midfield. Milner should have started, love the Newcastle fans boo-ing every decision, Allardyce should get all this subs warmed up and stripped at different time just to screw with them.
Terrible Newcastle performance although Liverpool did play well. Torres seemed to want to walk in towards the end after missing a few early chances perhaps

it'd be great if we brought in someone like quaresma playing in kuyts place today. pace, so much creativity, great skill. rotate him, babel and kewell around, along with benayoun who could also take kuyts place. ace.

kuyt was pretty good today i thought, even when newcastle were putting up a semblance of a fight. he's never going to be the most technical player in the world, but he created a few chances, worked as hard as ever and had a good eye for what was going on around him. not sure what else he really could have done.

each time he got the ball he took ages on it and eventually lost it 75% of the time, especially in the first half. and that was today too btw. he's been awful most of the season, and like you said he isn't the most technical player in the world. quaresma would do great there. his attributes would suit the role and we could also rotate him around on the wings with kewell and babel. and again, benayoun could occupy kuyts role today, along with the wing roles.

Awful today - simply awful. Fat Sam handed Liverpool the game from the off, so the result was never in doubt. Liverpool should have scored a lot more than three - we were that bad.
Manager didn't help himself - starting with an unfamiliar system, which he had to change due to Liverpool playing 4-3-3. We struggle to keep the ball and have absolutely no width, none more evident than down the right hand side. 2nd half - he takes off our most creative midfielder (Emre), then answers the lack of width by replacing Charlie with Milner. What was the problem with leaving Charlie on, taking Smith off and playing Milner down the right ? I think the crowd had every right to vent their frustration when the manager is making clearly very wrong decisions. You can point to injuries but bad tactics and team selection has to stop at the managers door. Even the players didn't know what they were doing today - we were that poor.
It's been many years since I've seen such an inept Newcastle performance. Fat Sam seems to be doing his best to get himself the sack.

erm i don't think the Newcastle fans really should be reacting like that 13 games into a season. Its ridiculous to suggest they have every right to do that.
not sure they've heard of the word patience in Newcastle.

Yeah, difference between a few boos at the end of a game, and booing everything the manager does. Hilariously once going from cheers to boos with no gap.
And Gerrard. Good move that. |

Rats - it's not the first time that Fat Sam has made bizarre substitutions during his short time here. Today there was no logic to anything he did and that includes tactics. For the last few games, we've been more concerned with not losing than winning games. And what's that got us ? Two hammerings at home and a lucky point at Sunderland. People have a right to be concerned with what they are seeing on the pitch at the moment.

Not going to find me defending Allardyce. I'm not one of those that thinks achieving what he did at Bolton, as good as it was, makes him a great manager. Long successful projects with a smaller club don't guarantee they'll be capable outside their comfort zone.
No pressure at Bolton.
