There's a cracking thread on Foot.ie at the moment - "100 things we didn't know at the start of 2006"

I will post up the list as it develops:

1. If the FAI and the League would actually merge and create a new league.
2. Pat Fenlon would become Derry City manager!!
3. Bohs would be richer than rich...
4. League of Ireland football would end up exluding the football part and become League of Ireland buisness prospects
5. Sean Connor is lower than low.
6. John Gill would become a crisis negotiator for the GardaÃ*.
7. Dublin City will go bust... (actually - we knew that )
8. Shels would go bust
9. Stephen Kenny would be the dunfermline athletic manager
10. The Christmas tree in the FAI foyer would take one hell of a beating
11. Galway United would be in the new Premier Division.
12. Sligo Rovers would perform better than anyone had expected
13. Shels fans would be the worst behaved in the league.
14. Dundalk would bring 400 fans to Galway
15. We'd have 400-600 fans at a midweek cup quarter final in Dublin.
16. Santa would send 30 helpers (20 drunk) to the last game of the season in Bray!
17. Bray's roof is made of cloth!
18. That the team that finished 3rd in the First Division would be promoted and the team who finished 2nd wouldn't. (That's restructuring for yer)
19. That Sligo did reasonable well in the Premier and didn't get relegated!
20. Superman lives in Derry...
21. That a Gretna fan would become a foot.ie legend.
22. its not THAT illegal not to pay your employees nor your taxes.
23. That a 22-year old player could go from Wayside Celtic to Birmingham City in six months.
24. Alan Kelly would be named "Referee of the Year"
25. The word "Bebo" would make a hefty appearance in the League
26. That Galway United get a full house.
27. That Derry would put out 2-time UEFA Cup winners out of Europe
28. Set Piece Athletic would fall to their own name/game
29. Player of the Season would sign for Pats
30. That Dalymount would finally be consigned to the developers in time
31. Skooligans would become a festering part of some clubs
32. That a game in Athlone would be shown live on national TV
33. A League game involving Cobh Ramblers would be shown live on national TV

Pre-season friendlies afs now cos of summer soccer. Last year we got raped by a Tallaght IT team. What made it worse is that Pat Scully also managed that IT team in his spare time

A manager coaching two sides in the same country?

That's a definite conflict of interest - and I demand that Shamrock Rovers be immediately thrown out of the League for that

Forde leaves Derry City for Cardiff
Tuesday, 02 January 2007 11:37

Goalkeeper David Forde has signed for Cardiff City from Derry City.

The Galway-born 26-year-old actually completed a successful medical and agreed personal terms with the Bluebirds in December but was forced to wait until the opening of the transfer window for the move to take effect.

He has previously played with Barry Town, Galway United and West Ham United.

A group calling itself Soccer Limerick have applied for a UEFA Licence to play eircom League football in Limerick next season.

The group, which is a consortium of Junior, Ladies, and Schoolboy soccer interests on Shannonside, have already applied for the licence.

An FAI spokesman confirmed on Tuesday, which was the deadline for expressions of interests, that they had received a number of applications from interested parties in Limerick.

The spokesman declined to comment on the number of, or identity of the groups involved, but added that the applications they received were 'very encouraging'.

Each of the interested parties will now receive a copy of the FAI's licensing requirements and have until 15 January to make a more formal application.

Soccer Limerick was formed under the umbrella of the Limerick Sports Partnership in November 2006.

According to Ger Finnan, the spokesman for Soccer Limerick who is also PRO with Limerick Junior soccer chiefs the Limerick District Management Committee (LDMC), they will meet again in Limerick tonight, Wednesday.

Finnan refused to comment on whether Soccer Limerick would be making a formal bid for a UEFA Licence but stressed that the group were very eager to see senior soccer survive in Limerick.

Finnan also stressed that he was speaking only in his capacity as spokesman for Soccer Limerick.

Limerick FC were told by the FAI in December that they had failed in their bid to secure a UEFA licence to play eircom League football in the First Division next season.

Concerns about the infrastructure at the club's Hogan Park ground were cited as the main reason for the club's failure to secure a licence.

The club subsequently appealed that decision but their appeal was turned down by the FAI's UEFA Licensing Appeals Board.

So is this the replacement for Limerick?

And apparantly the Shels players held a meeting with Ollie. Some are own bonuses as far back as the Deportivio/Split matches and league wins

They havent been paid this week which makes it 3 weeks for some, 6 for others

They currently couldnt field a team

They owe 6.5 million euros

Not if you have to charge €20 in to afford it :p

Shels are a joke, which is all good news, except for when they are hammered by the Andorran shepherds in the CL, undoing all of the Irish sides good work of recent years
