Kearney set for Cork return

January 12, 2007

Former Republic of Ireland under-21 winger Liam Kearney is expected to return to Cork City from Shelbourne before the start of the 2007 season.

Kearney left the Leesiders for Shels 12 months ago, but despite being part of a title-winning squad at Tolka Park, he failed to many any real impact at his new club.

Now, the ex-Nottingham Forest man affectionately known in his first spell at Cork as the Conna Maradona could return to his home county for a second spell.

Shels have lost the bulk of their championship squad, including Sean Dillon to Dundee United, Joseph Ndo and Gary ONeill to St Patricks Athletic and Stuart Byrne and Ollie Cahill to Drogheda United.

I wouldn't rate him too highly tbh. A big physical guy, will work a defence hard but whenever I see him it seems like he needs 3 or 4 chances to score. Then again he's scored 25+ goals for the last 3 seasons so he must be doing something right He also impressed on international duty for Ireland v. Chile, though has been underwhelming when playing for Shels in the Champions League qualifiers.

dont listen to that cotten mouth, byrne can bang goals in from all angles. Get him the ball and he'll do the do for you. With the right supply your definitely looking at a 12-15 goal man for the rest of the seaon.

'Different look'?! I'll say. I can't wait to see them pioneer their fiendish new 0-0-0 formation.

New club to be called “Limerick 37”

January 14, 2007

A prospective new club in Limerick to replace the ill-fated Limerick FC will be known as Limerick 37 in commemoration of 1937, the first year in which senior soccer was played in the city, it has been revealed.

Limerick FC’s place in the league was effectively stripped from them when they failed to earn an FAI license after initial findings and subsequently on appeal.

But an application from a consortium known as Soccer Limerick will attempt to replace the previous club as Limerick’s representative in the eircom League.

Should their application by successful, Limerick 37 could take their place in the eircom League First Division this year.
Limerick 37?! How amazingly awful is that for a name of a football team.

Definitely, the 37 just sounds strange.
