Uses Software emulation and firmware updates are used to make PS2 games compatible...
No Emotion Engine and and graphics chip in the PS3, they've been taken out.
That said a firmware updated PS3 can play 72% of games and that 28% is mostly made up of PS2 games that are pretty lame anyway. It will play all the games you can name off the top of yur head. Don't worry.
