I've heard similar. Pretty sure one of the main marketing points of the "new" ps3 was that it vastly increased the backwards compatability. So stuff like PS2 versions of PES actually work properly now.

I think(but not certain) that tonys right. iirc the 40gb one doesn't have backwards compatibility, so you'll need a 60gb one, which is being discontinued.

Uses Software emulation and firmware updates are used to make PS2 games compatible...

No Emotion Engine and and graphics chip in the PS3, they've been taken out.

That said a firmware updated PS3 can play 72% of games and that 28% is mostly made up of PS2 games that are pretty lame anyway. It will play all the games you can name off the top of yur head. Don't worry.

I love the fact that the Wii isn't even considered in the 'console war' debate when it's completely kicking ass. Yes, I love my 360 but a lot of the games feel so empty that I never finish them. The only 360 game that has given me any sort of durability this year is Bioshock.

I dare anyone to play Mario Galaxy and not enjoy it, it's a gamers wet dream.

For me, I'd have 1 Mario/Metroid/Zelda every couple of years over endless FPS and sports sims, the whole kiddy console debate is just farcical.

People with any issues with the likes of PES can now complain to Gaga then, as he's assuring you iw will play all your games. Cool.

40GB Playstation 3 has 2 less USB ports, no backward compatibility or SACD support. I just done a quick check just in case I was wrong or was informed incorrect

Well that's the issue really. Most people don't buy a console to have a good game very few years. They want options. It's one of the reasons the N64 didn't do well.
