| Scholes, Anderson, Giggs, Rooney, Lampard, Ballack, Fabregas, Hleb, Rosicky, Gerrard, Kranjcar, Elano, Nolan, Malbranque, Tuncay and the loads that I've missed out, just off the top of my head, can all at the very least do a job there. </BLOCKQUOTE>
don't even need to drag the likes of Rooney or Giggs in really, there are plenty of genuine attacking or creative central midfielders around. Cahill and Arteta another two that spring to mind.

| Malouda can play AMC </BLOCKQUOTE>
Yeah, a lot of top players can, but it is not his natural position is it. </BLOCKQUOTE>
No it isn't but I've seen several DMC listed in this thread even though it isn't their natural position

Best Today: Essien, Mascherano
Most Promising: Mikel, Diaby
Most Overrated: Momo
Most Underrated: Savage. People don't seem to realise that he is actually amazing at what he does. Which is be an irritating twat, but it wins the ball and can win games, who gaf if it wins supporters.
Suppose the Man Utd lot still massively underrating Mikel and thinking he isn't great either judging by Nick's post.
Best Ever: Makelele, Keane

Mascherano is currently the best DMC in the league.
Makelele best of all time.

I wouldn't call him "awesome". Strictly as a defensive midfielder - Mascherano is awesome. He is what I envision as a defensive midfielder, protecting the back four, blocking any attacks, crunching tackles etc. Not sure Alonso fits into that bracket. He can certainly do a job at lying deep and protecting but he's not your typical DM.
It's difficult, I guess it's a matter of personal definition and taste. Alonso is a CM in my book but then again I would call Gerrard your archetypal CM and they are very different players.
Basically my point is Alonso is a deep lying playmaker as you say, but that is a different role to defensive stopper.

| Yeah, laughable I forgot them, though just as well really.
Giggs a very viable one imo, always been a favoured tactic with Fergie in europe to go 4-5-1 with Giggs behind the front man, and he's destroyed us singlehandedly a few times from that position down the years.

Nicky Butt is also fb.
Surprised no-ones mentioned him so far, he's been class for Newcastle this season.

| always so defensive
he's a good player. naming two others instead of him doesn't mean i'm dismissing him as useless, believe it or not. just don't think he's as amazing as your lot claim, whereas the two i've named impress me loads.
