Well, I would put defensive partnerships as being much more important. As the last line of defense, I reckon the ability to work as a unit and cover for each other is definitely a factor.

Best defensive partnership Terry/Gallas for me. Can remember them comparing stats of this and Terry/Gallas only had 6 goals conceeded in something like 19 games together when both played CB. When Carvalho played this went up a fair bit although Ricky is fb also \o/.

the most underrated centre back has to be MArtin Laursen. Gets MOM pretty much every game for us, and is an absolute hero. I think he has this policy where he HAS to get to the ball first from an oppositiion goal kick, and so launches himself at it from anywhere in the park.

He's made a few mistakes, but he's been our best central defender since McGrath.

vidic and ferdinand is the best partnership currently. with ferdinand the best epl centre back.

So you're saying you're basing your opinion on him on two things;

1) Having seen him play once in the last 1½ years (The Carling Cup game this season).

2) The fact that your manager put in a bid (or three) for him. A criteria which really makes no sense whatsoever to me.

I just commented in order to see whether it was an opinion based on observation, or just something you said to defend the earlier statement that you have the best defensive partnership outside the top 4. Now I know which one it was.

I'd still like to know who overrates him though, other than perhaps Rovers fans?

Best:Carragher and Terry
Under rated: Carvalho. People don't seem to think he's as good as he is. From a biased point of view, Ibrahima Sonko. They don't call him Superman for nothing
Over-rated: Dunne. Carvalho by people in this thread saying he's the best in the league.
Potential: Richards and Steven Taylor.
