Sorry to go slghtly off the topic but, has anyone else had the kind of domination Phil Taylor has had with Darts across any other Sport for such a sustained period?

I know Darts obviously doesn't require the fitness levels of other sports but still, for one man to be so much better than every other in the world for so many years is pretty amazing.

Yeah he crossed my mind but didn't have enough knowledge about F1 off the top of my head to know how long exactly he was on top.

Yeah I suppose I missed out Hendry in the snooker also but Taylor has been on top for about 15 years hasn't he?

Hendry had a long period of domination but he's far from on top now and the quality of Snooker has improved so much that I'm not sure he would have been so dominant if you give him back his peak and place him into todays game.

I'm not saying he wouldn't be, because he was simply amazing but its a question that can never really be answered.

Hendry forced the competition to improve imo, he took the game to a new level but after a while others have caught up, I don't think Hendry has got drastically worse, just the whole standard has improved so much over the last 10 years.

If you're talking domination then I think Bradman is still the Don (see what I did there?), obv it's a team sport, but his figures speak for themselves. He's so far ahead of any other cricketer (well batsman) ever that he must be considered the most dominant sportsman ever.

speaking of world champions, I met James Hickman today :cool: I timed one of his lengths, and despite him clearly only going slow I was quite happy to realise I could've beat him, until I realised he wasn't even using his legs

this guy weren't bad either. Also Federer if you don't count clay, afterall Schumacher didn't have to race on rally tracks, and Hendry and Taylor only ever played on one surface.

Michael Johnson is indeed one of the greatest sportsman of all time, but he only did it over a 7 year period, which isn't really in the same league as what the question was regarding the time Taylor has spent at the top
