only really play a couple of hours a week, but is the step up from ps2 worth it? sig differences...?

Ive got 3 consoles gathering dust. Dont have children if you plan to plat video games over the next decade or so

Havin said that im gonna get a copy of Final Fantasy 7 for sheer nostalgia

I'd agree with that. I have a ps2 that I only really use for Pro Evo. I'm not really a serious gamer, and I find the wii far more enjoyable for most things. It definitely comes into it's own when I've got a few mates round.
