Basically looking to pick up a cheapish digital camera for the last few weeks of term.

Been browsing about various sites and have realised i don't actually know what specs im looking for or really need.

Basically just want a camera that will take still pictures in day and night and has a decent storage. Most pictures will just be stored on pc and won't be printed.

Any help?

No.
5mp will be more than adequate.
The higher the def the better the resolution will be for when you are printing or enlarging.
But if they're just for PC viewing then the only difference you will notice is the amount of space they take up.

the mrs has a 5mp one. All i seem to do when i use it is to scale down the photos when i put them on my computer.

If you're printing then i guess its good.

not really, try going for a decent brand with a good history, like canon

You will need good large, fast speed storage. It needs to be fast or you will have a slight annoying delay when taking pictures.

no one really need a 12m pixel camera if all you gonna do is to store them digitally (hard drive or website). you only really need large number of pixel if you are gonna print it A0 or something.
