A long story that goes back aawhile but basically the new system im now on at work requires less staff to run it. Roughly had to get rid of 50% (or so they thought about 6-8 months ago). As a result they were offering voluntary redundancy and they fully expected everyone who wanted it could have it. Few months in and inital figures showed most would get it, but some would be refused.
Had a meeting today at work and out 200 or so people only 12 will get voluntary redundancy. One of the guys who applied for it must have been there a while and was going to get a nice tidy sum. He planned to go around the world using it. Seems now tho he will have to stay. So rather than sunbathing on a nice tropical beach somwhere, hes stuck in an office in Wakey
