UK fuel protests set to resume in the next few days
Just been on our local news - apparently there's a meeting taking place in the North East over the next 24hrs, to discuss taking direction action with regards to the recent rise in fuel prices. The average cost of a litre of petrol in the UK has now broken the psychological barrier of £1. Andrew Spence is said to be involved with this again, as he was back in the last action of 2000 and 2005.
Here's a Wiki link for those who wish to read up further;
I remember the protests of 2000 - didn't lorry drivers band together to block city centres/motorways with a 'go slow' approach, as well as blockading some fuel depots ?
Either way. not sure if any action will result in the price coming down. Seems to be more of a move to cause more political turmoil during a bad time for the Labour government.

Get the plastic bullets, batons and tear gas ready. If Gordon Brown sends in the army to smash (and preferably kick while on the floor) any blockades then I might even consider voting for him.

Petrol comes from oil. It has to be drilled, refined, shipped from volatile countries, a huge tax added onto it when it comes into the UK and by and large the product in its various forms has been highly responsible for most of the global conflict in the last 40 years - yet still a litre of it down your local petrol station costs less than a half litre of Mineral water.

Charge the townies more to subsidize fuel for those in rural areas. Helps those who have no choice but to use a car afford the hikes and encourage those who have more transport options available to use them. :thup:

that would be a brilliant argument if your average working man needed to buy 50 litres of mineral water a week.

When do things get priced depending on how much you 'need' to buy of it?
