If most people ditched their car and used public transport or bought a bike, how would the Goverment make up the millions they would lose from tax on petrol?

| by the savings they made from not having to maintain roads, by the income generated by public transport, and by the money saved by the NHS maybe?

I doubt it, but I'd rather they took the money from people polluting the environment than say stick VAT on bread and milk, or increase the lower tax rate.

CBA with driving really, the bus or my motorbike did me when I had it.
A bus ticket here costs £1, or £1.90 for an all day ticket. Compared with nearly £7 a day parking were I used to work then using a car was never an option. Wouldnt be so bad now as there is free parking where I work now but meh.
Bike cost about about £10 every three weeks in petrol if I used that.

£2.85 for a single fare into town, when it is about 4 miles, is just a joke. If there are 3 of you, it works out cheaper to get a taxi than the bus, ffs.
However, as I can't afford the initial outlay, i'm stuck with it.

It takes me about 25 minutes, but I take the easy routes not the shortest ones, and I don't go that fast. Still quicker than the bus though, which usually takes about 30-35.
Cycling is rarely a valid option though.
