I mean, I've got an mp3 player. It's not an iPod. It's a Sanyo something-or-other, so I call it an mp3 player. Yet, anyone who's got an iPod calls it an iPod - why? Surely it's an mp3 player, so why not call it that? Is it a status thing?

It seems that if you've got an iPod you call it that, and if you've an mp3 player that isn't an iPod, you call it an mp3 player - despite them being the same.

Why? Are people just showing off?

I call it an ipod because its an ipod. It also plays videos, and has games etc

Same as i say i've got a wii. I dont just say i have a games console.
