my main point being, if you can be more specific about what it is easily why not be? everyone knows what an ipod is, so you can call it an ipod and everyone knows what you are on about. all the other mp3 player brans you cant do this with, so a general term has to be used so people know without you spending ages explaining what it is
Everyone knows what an mp3 player is, so why do you have to specifically point out that yours is an 'iPod'?

What difference does naming your device by its brand have? The majority of non-iPod's are simply called 'mp3 players' and thats sufficient, so why does the iPod get seemingly special treatment? That's my point. </BLOCKQUOTE>

your point is crap. If someone owns a Dell they call it a Dell. Not a Standard ATX case with core2duo and half a gig of ram </BLOCKQUOTE>

No, YOUR point is crap. I think the majority would just call it a PC, and second, I'm not talking about specs, I'm talking about the mere naming. I don't know anyone who calls their PC anything but a 'PC'. I've never heard anyone brand their PC.

I think I'm talking to a bunch of iPod owning street cred hoovers anyway, so its a moot point. </BLOCKQUOTE>

so by calling your MP3 player a "MP3 Player" you are not talking about the specs then?

Not unless I called it a 80GB HD MP3 Player with Image and Video playback, surely?

No he isn't. It's like saying "where's my computer?" How else are you gonna call an mp3 player? a portable music device?

yeh "wheres my music player" if we're conforming to his ethos. By saying MP3 you are talking about the specifications which is UNACCEPTABLE.

that's a very good point. why do you feel the need to say 'mp3 player' rather than just 'music player'? are you worried people might think you still have a cassette/cd player and might not think you're cool?

No, you've got it wrong. Mp3 player is what they are, that's what they're all called. Like I said, referring to the hard drive capacity or its other features are the specs of it.

How sad, just ask for an Ipod for Christmas and then we can put this thread behind us.
