No, YOUR point is crap. I think the majority would just call it a PC, and second, I'm not talking about specs, I'm talking about the mere naming. I don't know anyone who calls their PC anything but a 'PC'. I've never heard anyone brand their PC.

I think I'm talking to a bunch of iPod owning street cred hoovers anyway, so its a moot point.

But I THINK I know what you are on about, and people have already given you the answer tbh, ipod were the 1st mp3 players so people associate the name with all mp3 players, and in turn call their ipods, ipods because that's their name, whereas other brand names are not as widely known or as easy to say.

not really the same as that, as as far as i'm aware people dont tend to call non-ipods 'ipods'? maybe similar to dysons, which often get refered to as 'dyson' instead of vacuum cleaner, but other vacuums don't </BLOCKQUOTE>

My point was that hoover has become an alternative to the generic name regardless of brand, Ipod hasnt become a generic name as far as im aware, its only used for Ipods. Likewise, Dyson hasnt become a generic name, but is often used to refer to Dyson's rather than people saying 'vaccum cleaner'
