I call my vacuum cleaner Henry and my iPod an iPod. I've lost my iPod Can't find it anywhere at home.

The main reason being if you're talking to someone and you say "I just bought my new mp3 player today" the likelihood is they will reply with something along the lines of "cool, what kind did you get?" and you'd end up saying it's an iPod anyway.

Because in reality mp3 players are not the same as an i-pod or i-touch or wutever.

Becasue mp3 players can be made by anyone while i pods of all shapes and sizes are all only made by apple and all have their distinct but simliar taste.

Because mp3 players as their name suggests originally and generally only play mp3 files which are totally different to the file system of i-pods and i-tunes, such as AAC.
Nowadays all i-pods and most mp3 players can play different file formats but still mp3 players cant plaY AAC files while all i-pods can play mp3 files.

ok,

1) the correct term for them nowadays is 'media player'. they play far more than mp3.

2) i have a Creative Zen M, i call it my Zen or my media player.

3) if we are all to be brutally honest with eeach other, it is partly of a fashion thing. i hate the whole popularity contest culture we live in, and no i am not a nerd, i am a tall athletic supposedly goodlooking well adjusted person with a good job and in a healthy relationship. i am not a social outcast but the whole idea of trying to maintain an image to imply my status in society drives me insane. the I-Pod was a trend for a long time because Apple are so bloody good at marketing their product.

3) the Creative Zen m is a far superior product that does not tie you to I Tunes (IMO the 7th circle of hell)
