the last few years of uni my sleep pattern is pretty disgusting, shifting about all the time, but it always gets fixed into a routine when I work over summer, and since summer I've had a pretty decent sleep pattern maintained.
then out of the blue last night, without a messed up sleep pattern and without having done anything really tiring the day before, I somehow managed to sleep from 3am - 3pm this afternoon. just horrible. by the time I've showered and had some 'breakfast' it's 4pm and the day is as good as gone.
the most disgusting thing though, is that once I'm up and showered after 12 hours sleep, I still feel groggy and lumbersome. If I'd had 7 or 8 hours sleep, after a shower I'd feel alert and ready to face the day with a spring in my step and a smile on my face. how the hell does oversleeping make you feel even more tired?
is there any truth to this old nugget I oft hear that "an hour's sleep before midnight is worth two after"?
I usually sleep from 1am to 6am Monday - Friday and weekends are hit and miss. Sometimes get a good 8 hours, sometimes i'll only get 3 or 4. But I think I've just got used to being a bit tired now and live with tomorrow.

And people say prison standards aren't harsh enough! :p
I normally try and get 8 hours sleep. It is said that if out of pattern, you sleep a bit more, it can lead to headaches, lethargy and such.
During the weekends, when I try and catch on some sleep, I do feel the after-effects, with frequent headaches!
