I didn't realise they had a second album out until I saw this thread.
I'll have a crack at finding it in a few specialist shops. Failing that, i'll pick it up online. I'm pretty interested to see how it compares to the first album as a whole.
I think my interest in them took a hit after I forced PotF onto a few mates of mine. They said something along the lines of it being pretty lame and faggy. I never took their opinion seriously though as they've got horrible taste between them.
Really want to listen to it now |

Listened to 3 songs from the latest album and I must say that i'm not overly convinced so far.
Carnival of Rust is great whilst Sorry Go 'Round is simply awful.
Late Goodbye makes it all better.

Personally I like 'Sorry Go 'Round' as a party tune like 'Fire' and 'Carnival of Rust' ifb. The lame and faggy bit I get, that was my reaction too initially but feck that, they can rock and the lyrics generally very good in the slower ones.
That said my favorite is 'Lift' from the first album.

Heard them while I was in Oulu this summer with my girlfriend. Thought they were pretty much terrible, like most Finnish music.
A few good ones here and there though.
That's all I have to add really, there are hundreds of bands I could list without a label, but I rarely find any who are worthwhile.

Manassas, Va.: You've been on the indie scene for a while, and I was wondering what the pros and cons are in staying independent and going to a major label.
Ted Leo: Tough to really say, since I've never been on a major label, but my suspicions are these (and this is ENTIRELY conjecture):
1. I'm too old and too set in my ways for them to be able to groom me for rock stardom. NOBODY wants to see my wrinkly brow on TRL.
2. Despite the fact that I trust the people at major labels who tell me that they don't want to do that - they want to offer me a home as a "stable artist," who can just do what he does for the long haul, time has shown us that it rarely works out that way - the bottom line is the bottom line, not mention the threat of mergers and firings and whatnot, and people get dropped.
3. Though I know for a fact that some of my fans would be happy for me to do anything that's going to help me be successful (and I thank them for that!), there'd be a lot of people who I think wouldn't be so happy with that change, and when I DO get dropped, then where would I be?
4. Look at where the major labels are going these days, anyway. Smart rats get the hell off a sinking ship.

I read that you’re strictly against corporate or commercial use of your music. Is it difficult to take that position?
Sometimes, absolutely. And it feeds into this whole discussion because since record sales are not where musicians are making their living anymore, and since a band at our level of the game, for lack of a better term, can’t survive solely on concert and T-shirt sales, this is where these other opportunities become more a part of the picture as to how a band survives. Certainly, selling music to commercials is one way to do it. But this is where I really start to feel like an old curmudgeon, because for me personally it’s just not right. I don’t at all pass judgment on others who do it. Of course it pains me to hear the Clash in a car commercial, but what are you going to do?
