Sonic Youth are old now, but still rock da house, as is how I believe the kids would refer to it.

And as for the Stooges nearly 40 years on and they most certainly "kick out the jamms mofo!" although it was MC5 who initially kicked out the jamms (mofo), as I believe the kids once referred to it.

non-**** genres (jazz, blues, classical) are studded with people who have been playing and performing their entire lives. </BLOCKQUOTE>

Can't really compare songwriting in jazz and blues with rock though. Improvisational skills and interpretation of the music won't diminish in the same way that the ability to continually write rock songs that sound fresh.

Can't really comment on classical music though as I don't know composers' canons of work well enough to say at what age their 'great works' were written and whether they experience a prime or not.

Didn't think that the new Eagles album was that bad fwiw, but I've never been that great a fan. </BLOCKQUOTE>

you're basically just agreeing with me. genres that don't depend on how you look/copy the newest sound, but rather go off of actual music-making talent and practice tends to have a longer shelf life.

Not bad. Not great, either. I'll not be wasting my money on it, though.

bolton1987, "Rush" and "awesome" in the same sentence just wrongness.

I completely agree with that, I just misunderstood what you were saying and then followed it up with an abysmal post.

As I'm sad, I just quickly looked up at what age several of my favourite pieces of classical music were composed at, with the majority of them coming out at around the 30's. Bears absolutely no relevance to the discussion given the date they were actually composed and that the situation back then is very similar to today, but hey ho.

A wise choice, neither did I. It's nice having crazy record collecting parents to filter out a lot of the rubbish for me.

well, it isn't like bach went hungry after the age of 30 because the public suddenly demanded thug harpsichord with an r&b tip.

ha, true, but you could still argue that his best received compositions were written in his 30's. Crap, just realised Wachet auf was written when he was 46 so I'll shut up. Bach is an exception longevity wise though. Would still say that the majority of the great works were produced during composers' early years. But I didn't study classical music in any great depth so I'll stop with the supposition.

Beethoven and Brahms did some of their best work late in their life and Mozart was very prolific up until his death.
